About the event
Dear Friends of Conservation:
       Â
In a continuing effort to help protect the last five remaining rhino species as well as other endangered species that occupy the same habitat (such as elephants, tigers, tapirs, bears, cheetahs, numerous birds and more), zoo keepers thoughout the country sponsor the national "Bowling for Rhinos" bowl-a-thon fundraiser.  All of the proceeds from these fundraisers go directly to the following conservation organizations in need of support:
- The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya, which works as a catalyst for community-based conservation of wildlife and its habitat
- Action for Cheetahs, also in Kenya, a conservation organization that helps humans and cheetahs coexist in the same area
- Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, home to the last 76 Javan rhinos in the world
- Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park and Way Kambas National Parks in Indonesia, home to the remaining Sumatran rhinos
The American Association of Zoo Keepers (AAZK) expresses its concern over the plight of the rhino by taking action. Â Since 1990, more than $9,000,000 has been collected nationally and distributed between the five conservation parks. Â In 2023, the San Antonio AAZK Chapter raised $10,000 towards the national total of $312,951.28 and their goal is to exceed that amount this year.
Join Dive Masters of San Antonio and the San Antonio AAZK Chapter at the 2024 Bowling for Rhinos bowl-a-thon fundraiser.
